I finally got to see my new niece today! Apparently her name is spelled Tiyanna Janay, which I should have expected knowing my sister. She squeezes a lot of letters into names (like my 8-year-old niece who's named Jaidah Mychelle). Anyway, she's a lot smaller than I expected even though she's 8 pounds, 4 ounces. It could be the fact that her head is normal sized and not humongous like Jaidah's was at birth. Also, she doesn't open her eyes. She did for like a minute while eating but other than that, she'd rather be in the dark. She's so cute.
I found out today that I'm taking half the Prednisone I should be. The prescription calls for 80 milligrams a day but the last time I was on it, the dosage tapered down from day to day in increments of ten or twenty. there's no tapering on my prescription bottle and I've been taking 40 yesterday and today so I'll see what I should do about the last two days. Taking 80 milligrams means swallowing four pills, though, which I have serious issues with.
About my summer plans, I'm taking classes in Worcester but not at WPI which means that I'll need some method of transport to and from Worcester State. My plan was to use the buses in the area but I ran into some issues with that. My classes start at 5:00 on some days and 6:00 on others, which is fine, but according to the bus schedules I found online, bus service ends by 7:50 at the latest. My classes end at 8:00 and 9:00 respectively. My response: fuck you RTA for being terribly inefficient. Now I need to hope it's sunny by 9:00 so I could walk back or hope that some nice person I know will agree to drive me back on Tuesday and Thursday nights. *sigh*
On a brighter note still related to summer, I have fun stuff that I intend to do! Right now I'm figuring out which movies I absolutely must see at the Gay and Lesbian Film Festival this year at the MFA. My list, as it stands so far, contains Black Womyn: Conversations, Through Thick and Thin, and A Jihad for Love. The first one is a documentary about black lesbians of many ages and backgrounds talking candidly about various issues they face. The second has to do with same-sex couples in the US where one partner is not a citizen. The last is about devout Muslims in gay relationships around the world. I probably won't be able to see that one 'cause I'll be in Worcester by that weekend (unless one of my Worcester people would like to make a trip here and back with me, lol) but the topic is so intriguing. Plus it's in like six languages. I'm a sucker for languages and cultural differences. But, if you'll be in the Boston/Worcester area, come with me, please! Each movie is $10 unless you're a student, then it's $8.
Other plans for the summer? I plan to be very, very crafty... and make granola, too! I'm not kidding. I've looked up a bunch of craft projects I could work on and thought about clothes I could make. It'll be a good time if I actually get some of it done. =)
